Demet Adıgüzel’s double-screen short film The Book charts a journey of discovery; as she searches for her roots, she reveals facets of her identity that were previously obscured. As she progresses, a new narrative of her past emerges.

The piece deals with the question of hidden identity. Through the process of making the film the artist reveals her relationship with her roots and Alevism and how it affected her.
She films the journey which is a journey into the self. The journey becomes a self discovery for she confronts where she stands with her roots and past. Therefore it serves to inform others and herself on Alevism which is very misunderstood.
